150 million years of honey

Bees have been making honey for 150 million years. From early on, humans relied (just as we still do today) on bees to fertilise the flowers in forests and fields, to give us crops to eat. But our ancestors also realised that bees produce a delicious, naturally sweet product in their hives…honey.

Honey has a natural sugar content of approximately 80%. The major constituents are fructose and glucose.
